Another rent update

Another 31,920 Naira raised – so in total we have raised US$ 1,330 towards our rent payment!

We are awaiting the decision from the landlord on how many more days he will grant us… and continue fundraising in the meantime.
Thank you everyone for your kind messages and support!

Just sent you 240.00 via paypal (NWHS Site)I e-mailed a few people and put it out on facebook again. I am sure your landlord will take the balance on good faith as the money comes in. Keep up the good work your not alone in this. Thanks for keeping us updated.

Made a small donation today via Patrick’s organisation. Wish I could give more :-(

How can you do the environmental awareness education etc. if you don’t have a home for the rescued primates, which are the heart of your work.. It’s not the first time that I hear from grass roots projects that it’s difficult for them to raise funds for the operational costs, whereas they have been able to raise the necessary funds for community projects, which aim at increasing environmental awareness etc.

Good questions,Pirjo. Dangerous to rent and be at the beck and call of landlords and that is for anyone, anywhere. Kalaweit in Indonesia fundraised to buy land and now have security of tenure for their gibbons, other animals amd have natural forest as well. Just thoughts and not meant to be critical of Cercopan.

Thank you Brenton and Pirjo for your input and thoughts! And it is all too true… we wish we would be able to relocate to a rent-free land.

Unfortunately, we are largely reliant on grants, i.e. restricted funding, since Nigeria’s bad reputation scares of many corporate and private funders (unless they know us personally). These grants, in turn, usually do not fund things such as monkey food, rent, or purchase of land… so we end up in the odd situation that we have money to pay for an education campaign, but not rent.

We have been assigned land at the University of Calabar, but so far have been unable to raise funds for the relocation. It’s a shame that animal rescue and rehabilitation is often not seen as a priority, especially of species such as guenons…

Dear Robert, we have received your donation, thank you so much for that! I am positive that the US$2.300 we have raised so far will show to our landlord that we are going to make the payment. I will keep you up to date!
