Thanks for the story, Amy. I love snakes. You're sooooo lucky to have seen these marvelous reptiles. They will return however as long as your hut is a supply of what they love most...rats. They're not coming to hurt you but just to get a meal. Snakes have poor eyesight and sometimes strike at anything that moves...obviously a problem inside a human habitation. If you see a snake inside just keep calm and don't move and eventually the snake will let itself out. If you can reduce the rodent population somehow, that would help to keep the snakes away.

Hi Lorraine, your father was well known to Torben Larsen (my principal consultant on this project). Your father's collections and writings were used extensively in research for Torben's book Butterflies of West Africa, which is our bible. Both in his time at Oban, and at Ikom, your father collected a lot of the best material seen in the area. I wish I had had the chance to be in the field with him, as he was one of the best!

Regards, Robert

Dear Claire,
My late father (RGT St Leger) collected surveyed this area extensively and he left his collection to the British museum. If you have not already consulted his collection you may think to do so.

regards

This is great news. It is so encouraging to know that education programs like you run in Cercopan really make difference. They both look in good condition physically and mentally. I hope the medical tests will confirm this.

That's wonderful news and sure better than living in a box. No animal should live in a box moreover monkeys. It is so importent to let the locals understand the damage they cause to nature and that they won't get any benifit from it. Do you plan to transfer him later to Pandrillus?

Great post Clare and another happy ending...and perhaps the villagers are now much more congnizant of the poaching problem and why it is wrong to have these animals as pets. And wow, those babies sure do get big...I imagine an adult male drill monkey is also very powerful??
